July 2008 Sixth Form news
Performing Arts students at Brockenhurst College were treated to an exciting salsa workshop as an end of year celebration.
First year A level Dance, Drama and Music and BTEC National Diploma Performance Studies students worked alongside each other in an intensive day's workshop to prefect their Salsa and Samba technique and create an outdoor performance at College last week.
Salsa workshop leaders Colin Issacs and Fiona Allen began the day teaching the basic Mambo steps before developing into turns and progressing onto partner work in the afternoon session. The students inspired by Salsa took part in an improvised Samba jamming session with music students over lunch before choreography was set for the performance at the end of the day.
The workshop was as much about the cultural diversity of trying new genres of music and dance as it was letting off stem at the end of a busy College year.
Jared Littlewood, Drama student said, "It's been good fun as it is very sociable and we got to know others in the group throughout the day, so it was a great finish to the year. I'd not done this before but I achieved a lot in a day considering my limited dance experience."
Tara Gadd enthused, "The workshop went really well - to get so many students that have never worked together to do a performance in a day is definitely a challenge, but it all came together for the final performance and looked fantastic!"
